FINAL COUNTDOWN

Guess you guys are almost outta here-
CHECK YOUR GRADES posted up on the white board and LET ME KNOW if there's any projects you've got posted that I didn't grade... Don't do an EVAL SHEET, just come and tell me!!!

FINAL PRESENTATION, for 40 points, you'll need to SHOW your 20 photo slideshow TO THE CLASS on THURSDAY June 11th... I will not accept late work or emailed presentations.

This is NOT the first time I've clearly stated this or explained it.
No excuses, no exceptions.

Other than that- IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE starting my day with you people... I hope you have good 1st periods for the remainder of you high school years!
(you know, ones that let you show up late without too much fuss, bring your coffees despite the NO FOOD OR DRINK policies, and have teachers who think that they're funny and make terrible jokes!)
Love,

Mr.L

PHOTOSHOP FINAL PROJECT

DIGITAL AGING
You last PHOTOSHOP assignment is to take THIS EXACT photo of JAMES FRANCO and use photoshop to digitally age him
so that he REALISTICALLY looks 65 years old or older.

This is the ONE photoshop assignment I CAN NOT help you on, it is your FINAL.

OUT OF ALL OF THE TOOLS you have learned, which ones will you use to do this? First -think about what you want to -do- to the photo to make him look older...

It is worth 20 points.
GOOD LUCK!!!

(...remember, seniors have to show their 20 photo slideshow to the class ON THURSDAY FOR 40 POINTS, and everyone else has to show theirs on FINALS DAY OF NEXT WEEK...)

YOU in HISTORY

For todays's 5 points, you will be inserting YOURSELF into a historical photograph.

This should be a scene of HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE and IN BLACK AND WHITE.

You get 5 points for posting the ORIGINAL PHOTO and the one that features YOU, seamlessly ADDED TO THE SCENE.

It should be like a HISTORICAL WHERE'S WALDO.... CAN you spot ME, behind Lee Harvey Oswald?

UFO over OCHS

Your 5 point assignment for today is another one that calls upon your
already existing knowledge of Photoshop.

Convincingly put an Unidentified Flying Object into the sky above OCHS.

You can use an internet spaceship photo (or 'make' your own, mine is a tortilla warmer).

You can use an online pic of OCHS (or one of YOURS, or go TAKE one).

Any 'special effects' that you know of? (I used the LENS FLARE FILTER at the bottom)

You get 5 points if it looks 'kinda' real.

COMPOSITE ANIMAL

div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are some good and bad examples from past students-

CLICK THIS LINK (there's about 5 pages!)

THE ASSIGNMENT IS-

Do this animal merging TWICE... Using at least 4 different 'source' photos of 4 different animals.
It is OK for ONE to be funny,
But at least ONE of your animal composites should be REALISTIC AND CONVINCING.

You will be using a bunch of tool that you SHOULD already be familiar with,
Lasso, move, layering, opacity, erasing, brightness/contrast, hue, etc...

This is worth 5 points and DUE on your BLOG by MAY 29th.
POST ALL ORIGINAL ANIMAL PHOTOS THAT YOU USE to make your beasts!
Label your blog titles:
COMPOSITE ANIMAL #1
and
COMPOSITE ANIMAL #2

TEXT #4 ransom name

The idea is to use what you now know about CANVAS SIZE, editing, and combining images to create your name
by 'stealing letters' from PHOTOS OF SIGNS.

ONE LETTER needs to be an IMPLIED LETTER.
(I.E., a photo of a donut for an 'O', a photo of the Eiffel Tower for an 'I')

These need to be PHOTOS from PHOTOGRAPHS OF SIGNS... NOT illustrator images (which are drawings made on a computer.
This is worth 5 points.
When this has been posted (include all original images in your blog post)
fill out an EVAL sheet for TEXT WEEK & include the names of the assignments that you did this week.

TEXT #3 sign text

Hopefully this should be fairly self-evident.
FIRST use the CLONE STAMP tool or the PAINT BRUSH TOOL to DELETE / ERASE / COVER the existing text on the sign,

THEN use an appropriate FONT, at an appropriate ANGLE (maybe even use the TEXT WARP tool) to write in your own, new message...

KEEP IT SCHOOL APPROPRIATE, PEOPLE!

SWEARS are for SQUARES!

Get creative with what you consider a 'sign' - see the shirt below.... Billboards, bumperstickers, and handmade yardsale or panhandler signs count and stuff...

5 points, due FRIDAY!
... and- YES, post the ORIGINAL- UNALTERED pics with your RE-WRITTEN ONES, please!!!

JEDI MASTERS

From these originals-

TEXT #2- single word AS IMAGE

In this mini-assignment,
your task is to insert a SINGLE WORD into an image so it BECOMES A PART OF the image.

Think about WHAT word to add to WHAT scene?
WILL you have to alter the FONT, size, or ANGLE of the word to make it work as a THING inside of the picture?

DO NOT USE MY TWO EXAMPLES done in class.

The word TEETH becomes the actual teeth in a toothless babies mouth.
The word NAIL is being driven in by a hammer.

AGAIN, this daily assignment is worth 5 points and due at the end of the week.

TEXT WEEK #1- quote on image

1) I would start by finding a quote.

One that means something personal to you about-
LIFE
love
LOSS
overcoming
DREAMS
family
STRENGTH

Here are a few easy to navigate sites-

BRAINYquote

famousQUOTES

THEquotationsPAGE

2) Next you'll need to FIND an image that serves to illustrate or REINFORCE your quote.

This can be from the internet OR an image YOU TOOK, either way is fine, as long as the LINK between the image and the WORDS is there and understandable...

3) Then you need to SELECT A FONT that works, place the TEXT in an appropriate READABLE - LEGIBLE- CLEAR spot on the image.

4) Then post it on your blog under the POST TITLE of TEXT #1 QUOTE

You will be doing 4 text assignments this week and turning in a single 1/2 evaluation sheet at the end of the week... Each mini-assignment will be worth 5 points!

DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOUR 20 PHOTO FINAL series!!!
The end of the TRI is in just over 2 WEEKS!!!

EXTRA CREDIT VID

Do you need 10 points of extra credit?

This is your SECOND-TO-LAST chance at getting some.

See this film-

at THIS link HERE.

By May 26th.

I will ask ONE SINGLE ORAL question worth 10 points on that day.

If you've seen the film, you'll get the answer.

BEWARE- I love this movie, but the reason I don't show it in class is because it is FULL TO THE BRIM with swear-words... It takes place in the 'red light' district in India (prostitutes and stuff) - but there isn't any nudity or anything- JUST LOTS OF HARSH LANGUAGE...

You were warned... Don't watch this with GRANDMA!

PHOTOSHOP #4 face merging

Your task today, FOR 5 POINTS, is to merge 2 faces together.

EITHER with internet images
(celebrities)

OR with photos YOU HAVE TAKEN.

OR both... You need to have at least one CONVINCING merge on your blog for the 5 points, but feel free to do this a couple of times for fun & practice.

The CANVAS FORMAT is important, you should post the originals on the same CANVAS as the MERGE, like a visual MATH EQUATION... THIS plus THIS equals THIS.

Like THIS.

Photoshop #3- INSERTING FISH

In the first few minutes of class you need to do 2 things-

#1- SAVE THIS PICTURE to your desktop

#2- FIND AND SAVE a photograph of a fish (again, to your desktop)- FULL BODY- taken from the side... SO you see the entire side of the fish with nothing overlapping it.

... And then just hold on, you are about to learn how to DIGITALLY INSERT something into a photograph.

You will be posting 2 FISH INSERTS today, on your blog, for 5 points.

THE FIRST ONE will be you inserting your fish into the underwater scene I've posted above-

THE SECOND ONE involves convincingly inserting this fish into a person's hand- using the OPACITY tool to erase the overlapping hand and then CHANGING the TONES/BRIGHTNESS to match the picture you are inserting into.

I will explain how to do the second one in class.

Extra Credit Contest

This is worth 5 points per pic, you can do up to THREE.
Go to THIS WEBSITE and read the requirements.

Submit pics and the PRINT OUT THE confirmation EMAILS that are sent to you AFTER you submit.

Put your name on them.
Give them to me.
CHA-ching!

OPACITY- PHOTOSHOP #2

You will be combining layers and ADJUSTING THE OPACITY of the IMPORTED layer to achieve overlay effects.

5 points for BOTH OPACITY pictures below, you may use internet images.

1) In the FIRST ONE, you will be using the lasso to cutout a PERSON and add them to a photograph. Using the OPACITY to 'dim down' the layer, they will become a 'GHOST-LIKE' apparition in the scene they are added to.

THINK of a creative way to do this before you hunt for random people/scenes... A figure holding flowers in a graveyard, for instance, might be more chilling than a see-thru Beyonce at the MTV music awards.

2) In the SECOND ONE, you will be overlaying 'something' onto a background - STAY AWAY FROM using figures and don't just do a second GHOSTLY FIGURE... Think about an overlay that makes visual sense. Think about SCALE.

!!!POST ALL ORIGINAL SOURCE IMAGES THAT YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR OVERLAYS!!!
Some things to think about-

What would you overlay above a city skyline?

What would make sense if it was overlayed in the water of a lake, like a reflection?

What would fit nicely when overlayed with a field of flowers? Or in the petals of a single flower?

What happens when you overlay a TEXTURE behind a FACE? Brick? Lightning? Diamonds? How does it affect the FACE? Does the facial expression matter?

GET ARTISTIC!!!

MIDTERM WEEK

NOTICE there are 2 'new' assignments on here, FASHION and NATURE.

They aren't due until AFTER THE MIDTERM grade gets posted this week.

You should focus on these things first-

1-Portraits
2-STILL LIFE
3-Picking/reserving your FINAL SERIES topic/idea

4-extra credit to fill in for missed things, like movies

THEN-
worry about the Nature & Fashion assignments...

FASHION ASSIGNMENT

FIRST OFF: Fashion Photography is -h-a-r-d---
So, do not underestimate how difficult it will be to get good shots where you control focus, background, people's expressions and poses, AND THE LOOK OF YOUR CLOTHING ITEMS!!!

These 6 shots are DUE, edited images AND original images, on Tuesday MAY 12th for 20 points.
Don't forget to LABEL EACH IMAGE and fill out an evaluation sheet once they are posted...

ALSO- there is an EDITING REQUIREMENT - half of this assignment is 'cleaning up' your photo in Photoshop - it is EXPECTED on this assignment.

The 6 shots consist of:

#1- WEBSITE IMAGE, this is just theISOLATED item- just the item, by itself, looking PERFECT with a completely neutral background.

#2-CATALOG IMAGE this is the ITEM IN A CONSTRUCTED ENVIRONMENT - just the item, in a set-up environment created for it (or appropriate for it)- think of the cowboy boots on the bail of hay in the barn- you find or create a background that FITS your item.

#3-#4-#5-#6- MODEL shots- you need someone to model your item as you take various shots- each shot is different- try to control the background and CONTROL YOUR MODELs poses and facial expression!!! TELL A STORY, even if it is a simple one, have your model DOING something that seems APPROPRIATE for the fashion item you've chosen.

#7- THE MAGAZINE COVER, using a different shot, or the one you think is best from the shots above, CREATE A MAGAZINE COVER at this link HERE. Include text on the cover. You can either pick a magazine that already exists or create your own new title.

NATURE ASSIGNMENT

This assignment is 30 points.
It is DUE, on your BLOG by the 8th of MAY... Fill out an EVAL SHEET and turn it in when you are done.

ALL of your shots should be EDITED (improved) in Photoshop and then posted along with the UNEDITED ORIGINAL in the post. Or do a single post with all of the unedited originals.

HOW MUCH you edit, is again your choice, but you should explain in the body of the post WHAT YOU DID to the original.

Images should be labeled IN THE POST'S TITLE with word(s) in BOLD below.

EXPLAINING WHAT YOUR DID TO EACH IMAGE IN photoshop IS HALF OF YOUR GRADE for this assignment.

SHOT LIST:
1)A bug's eye view of nature

2)BASED on nature- This is a MAN-MADE thing that has obviously been made/constructed/carved/painted to IMITATE something from the natural world.

3)Clouds - either total sky or with 10% land/trees in the frame

4)Nature takes over- nature reclaiming its territory from man

5)Man's Impact on nature- good or bad. As people, we both HELP and HURT the environment...

6)50/50- a composition that is 1/2 nature- and 1/2 man made

7)Wild animal- not a domesticated pet. Hunt and 'shoot' a critter! (with your camera)

8)Natural Water - drops, reflections, puddles- NATURE oriented, not sinks or drinking fountains or man-made sources

9)Nature Inside- some element of the natural world that has been brought 'in-doors'

10)Nature Panorama - composed of a minimum of 5 separate shots and assembled in photoshop

11)Goldsworthy Shot- make something OUT of nature, while IN nature (google image search 'andy goldsworthy' to see what this means- if you missed the presentation in class)
